OpenPhone (now Quo) alternatives for a shared business line

5 alternatives and the baselineVendor claims read 2026-10-22

For a small team that calls and texts customers from one shared business number and is weighing a move. OpenPhone is now called Quo: its own changelog announced the new name on 2025-09-23, and openphone.com redirects to quo.com. Quo is the first column, read from its own resource centre; five phone systems follow, each read from its own help pages on 2026-10-22. More side-by-sides sit in the comparisons index.

Verdict by use case

Best overall

Dialpad

A STOP blocks the contact for every number on the same registered campaign, so a second line on the account cannot text them by mistake, and a greeting is mandatory on recorded shared-line calls. Its SMS export carries each message's delivery status and A2P registration status.

Verdict

Best for catching every FCC reply word

RingCentral

Its opt-out list recognises all seven reply words the FCC rule names, and admins can view and export the whole account's opt-out list. Plan around one gap: the block is per pair of numbers, so your other lines need that list honoured too.

Verdict

Best for teams that call and text out

JustCall

One Compliance Center page carries the business profile, 10DLC campaigns, caller ID name and toll-free registration. A STOP to a bulk text blocks the contact across the whole account by default, and with its recording-compliance switch on, outbound recording stays off by default on calls into all-party states.

Six phone systems, ten rows

A shared line carries texts and calls, so the rows mix both: four texting rows from the FCC's rule (47 CFR § 64.1200) and CTIA's guidelines, one row for who sent what on a shared inbox, two recording rows, caller ID, message export and porting. Quo is the first column; "Our pick" marks the best-overall verdict.

Reading the rows for a shared line

Registration is the one row every tool clears: all six run 10DLC registration from inside the product, which is what lets a local number text US customers at all (the 10DLC guide explains the brand and campaign steps). The texting records are where they all fall short. None documents a stored time and source for each opt-in, and none documents a hold that keeps texts inside the customer's own 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. window. On a shared line, keep the opt-in proof in your own consent log (the Records guides and tools cover what it holds) and check sends against the quiet hours checker.

The calling rows are stronger. Every tool records automatically, and five of the six document an announcement the caller hears; Dialpad can play it only to callers from two-party-consent area codes. Grasshopper is the one "No" on export: texts cannot be downloaded, and its page says SMS history is deleted when the number is ported away. Read the call recording comparison for the recording rows in more depth; the dialer comparisons and the calling-hours and Do Not Call guides sit in the Calling pillar.

Where one STOP lands on a shared line

A team with two or three numbers on one account has a question a single-number texter never meets: when a customer opts out on one line, does the block reach the others? The six tools give six different answers.

  1. 01 A customer replies STOP to a reminder from your front-desk number.
  2. 02 Eight days later a teammate texts the same customer an invoice link from the billing number.
  3. 03 Does the second text go out?

Caution

The FCC rule speaks of a customer who no longer wants calls or texts "from the caller or sender", and gives the business at most 10 business days to honour it (47 CFR § 64.1200(a)(10)). That is your business, not one of its lines. Where a tool blocks per number, someone has to carry each opt-out to the other numbers inside that window, and keep a record that they did.

The words that trigger the block matter as much as its reach. Quo and Dialpad document short keyword lists and Aircall gives examples; only RingCentral's list carries all seven reply words the rule names. A reply such as "please stop texting me" still counts if a reasonable person would read it as a revocation, so whoever watches the shared inbox needs to know what to look for (the opt-out keywords guide lists them, and the texting rules guide tracks the FCC's 2026 order on revocation methods, adopted but not yet in effect).

Vendor by vendor

Each card repeats the table's rows with the detail from the vendor's own page. Caller ID names sit in more depth in the branded caller ID comparison.

Quo (formerly OpenPhone)

quo.com

What it is

A shared business phone system for calls and texts. OpenPhone renamed itself Quo on 23 September 2025; numbers, conversations and team setup carried over, and openphone.com now redirects to quo.com.

Who it fits

The baseline on this page: the tool you would be moving from.

  • 10DLC brand and campaign registration in-productYes

Registration starts from Settings, then Trust center. Once a business registration is approved, every number in the workspace can text US numbers.

  • Honours STOP and plain-language revocation automaticallyNo

STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END and QUIT, as single-word replies only. Quo's page says "STOP PLEASE" does not trigger the opt-out.

  • Records opt-in with a timestamp and the numberCheck with the vendor

The opt-out page tells you to keep consent and opt-out records yourself; no consent field is described.

  • Quiet-hours window by the recipient's time zoneCheck with the vendor

Scheduled texts estimate the recipient's time zone from the area code; nothing that holds sends to a window is described.

  • Shows which teammate sent each text on a shared numberYes

Shared numbers show which team member sent each message, with typing indicators.

  • Records inbound and outbound calls automaticallyYes

Auto-record per number on the Business and Scale plans; manual recording on every plan.

  • Plays a recording announcement the caller hearsYes

Set per number, inbound and outbound separately: a spoken notice, a tone that reminds you to say it, or nothing.

  • Sends a caller ID name and number on outbound callsYes

A caller ID name for US local numbers, for businesses with a tax ID and an approved carrier registration.

  • Message logs exportable in bulkYes

Owners export contacts, call logs and message logs as CSV. Recordings, voicemails, transcripts and media are not in the export.

  • Ports your existing numbers inYes

Owners and admins submit the request; Quo says most ports finish in 3 to 7 business days.

Company admins register the brand and campaign through a self-serve form that works with The Campaign Registry.

  • Honours STOP and plain-language revocation automaticallyNo

STOP, UNSTOP and HELP are the commands. A command with extra spaces after it does not trigger, and the commands do not apply to toll-free numbers.

  • Records opt-in with a timestamp and the numberCheck with the vendor

Opt-in methods are described in the campaign registration; a stored opt-in per contact is not.

  • Quiet-hours window by the recipient's time zoneCheck with the vendor
  • Shows which teammate sent each text on a shared numberYes

A text from a shared line shows the line's name and number together with the sender's name.

  • Records inbound and outbound calls automaticallyYes

Automatic recording per office, shared line, department, contact centre or coaching team.

  • Plays a recording announcement the caller hearsYes

A greeting is mandatory on recorded inbound main-line, department and contact-centre calls.

  • Sends a caller ID name and number on outbound callsYes

Company admins update caller ID names for local US and Canadian numbers by CSV upload.

  • Message logs exportable in bulkYes

Company admins on all plans export SMS and MMS traffic as CSV, with delivery status and A2P registration status.

  • Ports your existing numbers inYes

Admins submit local ports from the portal, up to 5,000 numbers per batch, with an e-signed letter of authorization.

Business phone

Aircall

aircall.io

Who it fits

Support teams that want callers to hear the recording disclosure before they reach a person.

  • 10DLC brand and campaign registration in-productYes

A2P Registration (US) in the Dashboard's Numbers section, with an AI check before you submit.

  • Honours STOP and plain-language revocation automaticallyCheck with the vendor

STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE and CANCEL are given as examples of keywords that block further texts; a full list is not published.

  • Records opt-in with a timestamp and the numberNo

Its Outbound Campaigns guide says consent documentation remains your organisation's responsibility.

  • Quiet-hours window by the recipient's time zoneCheck with the vendor

  • Sends a caller ID name and number on outbound callsYes

CNAM for US numbers; Aircall cannot guarantee the name shows on every carrier.

  • Message logs exportable in bulkCheck with the vendor

Message events reach your own systems by webhook; a bulk export of message history is not described.

  • Ports your existing numbers inYes

Self-service porting in the Dashboard for US and Canadian numbers, with the letter of authorization signed there.

How we read the claims

Questions switchers ask

Is OpenPhone the same company as Quo?

Yes. OpenPhone announced its new name, Quo, in its own changelog on 2025-09-23, and said numbers, conversations and team setup stay the same. openphone.com now redirects to quo.com, and the help centre calls the product "Quo, formerly OpenPhone". Anything you read about OpenPhone's texting rules applies to Quo.

Does every number on a shared line need its own 10DLC registration?

It depends on the provider. In Quo, an approved business registration clears every number in the workspace to text US numbers, while a sole-proprietor registration clears only one. Grasshopper asks you to select each number in its registration assistant. Either way, an unregistered local number cannot text US numbers, so register before or at the same time as you port a number in.

Quo says 14 states need all-party consent to record. Is that right?

Lists differ. The Reporters Committee's compendium counts about 11 states that primarily require all-party consent, plus Connecticut and Nevada for phone calls; JustCall's built-in list also includes Puerto Rico and Vermont. Federal law needs one party's consent (18 U.S.C. § 2511(2)(d)), and a call across state lines can fall under the stricter law. An announcement on every recorded call, inbound and outbound, avoids having to pick a list.

What stays behind when we leave Quo?

Quo's owner-only export gives contacts, call logs and message logs as CSV files, emailed within 24 hours with a link that expires after 72 hours. Recordings, transcripts, voicemails, media and internal threads are not in it, and workspace data is deleted 30 days after cancellation. Quo has no master opt-out list either, so search the message log for opt-out replies and carry those numbers into the new tool as opted out before anyone texts from it.

Does a STOP text also stop phone calls?

Not in the software. Dialpad's page says a contact who replied STOP can still receive calls from that number. A spoken "don't call me" is a separate do-not-call request: for telemarketing calls the FCC rule says it must be honoured within 10 business days and kept for 5 years. On a shared line, put both kinds on one list the whole team checks.
